  • SYNOPSIS: Set on the frontier during the French and Indian War, the film is a thrilling adventure of love and betrayal. THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS was begun by Tourneur, who was at the height of his brilliant career. When he was injured, assistant director Brown (who went on to make ANNA CHRISTIE, NATIONAL VELVET and THE YEARLING) took over and shot much of the film. Filmed on location in California' Yosemite Valley, the film features ravishing landscapes and sensational action sequences. This meticulous restoration is by the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House from an original nitrate negative. "A colorful retelling of the James Fenimore Cooper classic. A first-rate silent drama." Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide "A masterpiece. Beautifully designed and lit. A rugged adventure tale, faithful to the spirit of the original." William K. Everson, AMERICAN SILENT FILM
